Gimmefiber dayOn November 4th, 2013 liNKCity along with other organizations around the world celebrated the Inaugural Gimme Fiber Day. This annual event was created by the FTTH Council to celebrate the only future-proof broadband solution across the world, and to showcase how fiber has positively impacted communities across the world.
The date for this world wide event was chosen to celebrate the life of Professor Charles Kao, the man who changed the way the world communicates. In 2009 Sir Kao was awarded the 2009 Nobel Prize in Physics for his ground breaking achievements focusing on the transmission of light in fibers for optical communication.
Kao developed critical techniques and configurations for glass fiber waveguide, and contributed to the development of different fiber types and system configurations. Many of these same configurations are used by liNKCity today.
In celebration of the Inaugural “Gimme Fiber” Day the Mayor and City Council awarded liNKCity with a proclamation declaring November 4th as “Gimme Fiber” Day in the City of North Kansas City.
